Before you buy
- Hot water. Whether you call it a hot water system, unit or service, size it to your household's usage. Installation must be done by licensed tradespeople.
- Fuel type. Choose natural gas, LPG (if you have bottles or a tank on your property), electric, heat pump or solar, depending on what your home has.
- Rebates. Government rebates for heat pump hot water and efficient heating may be available in some states. Check your state government's energy website.
- Air conditioning. Choose capacity to suit the room, and check the Zoned Energy Rating Label for your climate zone.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose storage or continuous flow hot water?
Continuous flow systems don't run out, but supply a limited flow at once. Storage systems hold a set volume ready to use. The right choice depends on your household, fuel and space.
