Choosing an induction cooktop
Induction cooktops for fast, precise heat and an easy-clean glass surface. Brands include Fisher & Paykel, Smeg, Bosch, Westinghouse and Artusi.
Induction heats the pan itself, so it responds quickly and the glass stays cooler than a ceramic cooktop. It still gets hot from the pan, so treat it with care. You'll need cookware with a magnetic base, and many induction cooktops are hardwired on a dedicated circuit, so check your electrical supply before ordering. Look for bridge or flexible zones if you use large pans or griddles.
Frequently asked questions
Will my pans work on induction?
If a magnet sticks firmly to the base, it will usually work. Check the base is flat and suits the size of the zone.
Can I replace a gas cooktop with induction?
Yes, as long as your kitchen has a suitable electrical supply. Have an electrician confirm it, and check the new cut-out against your benchtop.
