Choosing a soundbar or home audio

Channel numbers describe the speaker layout: a 2.1 soundbar has two main channels and a subwoofer, while 3.1.2 adds a centre channel and two upward-firing height channels. Check whether a subwoofer is included, and that your TV and soundbar share a connection. HDMI ARC or eARC is best, with optical as a fallback. Passive speakers need a separate amplifier, while powered speakers have one built in.
